Full Job Description

We are currently seeking an Associate Fire Engineer for our Leeds or Sheffield offices, this is due to our growing portfolio of exciting projects and to assist in the development of our team.

You will be working with a creative, innovative, multi-cultural and self-motivated team of fire safety consultants throughout the UK and Middle East. The successful candidate will complement our fire safety consultants by assisting with the implementation of the fire engineering services on our projects. We are sponsored by Arup Fire engineering teams located in 20 offices around the World.

The successful candidate will form part of the project team on a range of different projects, managing junior engineers, and being supported by the wider team as necessary. The role will involve interactive and joint working with our fire engineers and with colleagues throughout the multidisciplinary teams at Arup. The role gives the opportunity to travel to our 10 UK offices or further afield as projects require. The projects will be diverse, exciting and range from conceptual fire strategy development through to handing over landmark projects in the built environment. By working at Arup you will be working for the major fire consultancy in the UK., We care about you and want you to perform at your best, which is why we offer one of the most competitive benefits packages in our sector.

As a member organisation, everyone shares in our success through a global profit share scheme (payments are dependent on the firm's financial performance).

We also provide Private medical insurance, Life assurance, Accident insurance and Income protection cover. In addition, you'll have access to flexible benefits to help you look after all aspects of your wellbeing and give you the freedom and flexibility to find the best solutions for you, your family, and your individual needs.

Our Fire Engineering team takes a particularly dynamic role in the development of our people and routinely provide opportunities to attend appropriate training and development courses. Also because of the developing nature of fire engineering, employees are encouraged to attend the appropriate annual conferences and CPD events (both internal and external). Once you have demonstrated a suitable skill in fire engineering and delivery of projects there will be a number of opportunities to advance your career.

We are looking for someone who is technically excellent and capable of delivering quality fire safety solutions on time and on budget with the ability to gain agreement for prescriptive and performance based design solutions from approving authorities.

As a senior member of the Fire team, you will have strong meeting and negotiating skills with the ability to guide project teams. You will be a team player capable of imparting knowledge to other members of the team in order to grow and develop them under your guidance.

Is this role right for you?

What we are looking for:

  • Degree in fire safety engineering or relevant subject

  • Chartered with a relevant institution such as the Institution of Fire Engineers

  • Extensive exposure in delivering fire engineered solutions for UK based projects.

  • Familiarity with appropriate legislation and design guidance for use in the UK, awareness of industry opportunities and forthcoming changes coupled with the implementation of projects as well as discussing/presenting to clients and stakeholders on the topic.

  • Be familiar with RIBA stages of design or other design frameworks (e.g. GRIP) and appreciate the total fire concept: from the client brief through to construction and operation, the fire engineering opportunities relevant to different design stages and the level/type of fire engineering input to progress the design and contribute to completion.
