Calderdale Building Control service has an exciting career opportunity for a qualified or partially Building Control surveyor to join our friendly, professional team.

We help to maintain construction and legislative standards of the built environment to keep the people of the Borough safe. We enforce Building Regulations on new build, plus extensions and adaptations of existing property, control demolition, and respond to incidents of dangerous structures, additionally we enforce Safety at Sports Grounds.

Following a successful internal promotion, we are looking to recruit a trained and competent surveyor, with previous Building Control experience to a vacant Building Control Surveyor (Career Graded) post.

To maintain the resilience, capacity, and capability of the Building Control Service we would be delighted to receive indications of interest from experienced Building Control Surveyors, able to provide advice and guidance to construction professionals and members of the public, undertake plan assessments and make regular site visits, to ensure statutory compliance with safety standards; to respond to incidences of dangerous structures, and to control demolition.

If you have recent experience delivering Building Control duties on site (especially within the public sector), hold a Surveying degree or equivalent qualification, are computer literate with practical experience of enforcing Building Regulations, dealing with dangerous structures, and controlling demolition we would welcome your application.

Being a career graded post salaries are based upon a combination of qualifications, experience, and demonstrable, relevant learning applicable to Building Control Surveying.

You will be expected to complete a variety of tasks including a combination of desk work using a computer, assessing plans and calculations, also communicating to people, face to face, over the phone and via email and formal letters; whilst making regular and frequent site visits, both to a variety of ongoing building projects and to the locations of reported dangerous structures, as part of a regulatory authority. A methodical work approach, an ability to communicate win-win solutions and to remain calm, objective and engaged during challenging conversations is essential.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team player, with a broad knowledge of building regulations and construction; able to demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills, familiar with collaborative working, capable of problem solving, demonstrating an ability to work on their own initiative, successfully planning and delivering their own workload.

The successful candidate will be required to register as a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator and to have their name recorded on a the governments public register, additionally the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their competence as a Registered Building Inspector via assessment and exam, and agree to uphold the ideals of the Registered Building Inspectors Code of Conduct.

As the role requires regular travel about the Borough, the successful candidate will require a full driving licence together with access to a vehicle, with milage being payable in accordance with Council policy., Disability Confident
