Full Job Description

for organisations. Gender space offers one-to-one and group therapeutic support for trans and gender questioning young people aged 13-18. Their parents and carers are also offered separate group support. We're looking for enthusiastic, friendly people who have a good knowledge and awareness of the LGBTQ+ community to help out with a monthly, in-person social group for young people who have previously accessed our Gender Space support. This will be a two-hour group from 11-1pm on the third Saturday of the month in the outskirts of Leeds. Your role will be to support the project workers with running the session, facilitating games and activities and supporting the set up and clean up, before and after. All participants will be subject to an informal interview, reference and DBS check, Barnardo's wide training as well as a service specific training session.

  • Tasks: Planning and organising group activities, which take into consideration age, abilities and interests of members.

  • Setting up group activities in advance and clearing away afterwards. This might include preparing refreshments/snacks, organising the layout of the room, preparing resources and tidying the room after the group.
    Assisting children and young people to improve their self-confidence, develop social skills and build positive relationships.
    Role modelling positive behaviour and interactions during sessions.
    Collating and evaluating feedback from children, young people and parents.
    Adhering to Barnardo's policies and procedures at all times, including Barnardo's: Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality; Recording policies and procedures.
    Participating fully in training and supervision.
    Volunteering within Barnardo's Values and Behaviours, Other training opportunities relevant to the volunteer role.
    Regular supervision and support.
