Full Job Description

Are you medically qualified and ambitious with an interest in surgical research? Do you have experience of working in General Surgery? Do you want to further your career by undertaking a PhD degree in one of the UK's leading research intensive Universities?
You will support and undertake research as part of the academic surgery research group. Your research will focus on the application of immersive and extended reality technologies to improve the performance and outcomes of surgical practice. You will supervised by an experienced academic team and will lead your own studies in this area, including methods development and clinical studies and contribute to the work of the research group as a whole.
Funding is available for a fixed period of 3 ½ years and is linked to a recently awarded EU Horizon funding (HoloSurge) to develop the next generation immersive technologies for liver and pancreatic cancer surgery. Your research will be related, but separate, from the EU project. You will work closely with the EU research team, along with other clinical academics and methodologists from the University of Leeds, to enable you to work towards a PhD. The subject of your PhD will be in the clinical applications of immersive and extended reality technologies. It does not necessarily need to be in liver or pancreatic surgery but must be in one to the General Surgical specialities. This is an exciting opportunity if you are a surgical trainee, especially if you are aiming to sub-specialise in General Surgery or pursue an academic career. You will be medically qualified with MRCP or equivalent and full GMC registration
