Full Job Description

1. To drive clients from home to a variety of locations in Birmingham and the West Midlands to participate in planned activities.
2. To collect Community Services vehicle from QAC Community Hub and collect / drop-off clients to their home address, returning vehicle at the end of route.
3. Ensure that the QAC vehicles are properly maintained by reporting any faults to the Maintenance Team
4. Maintain the internal state of the vehicles, so that they are clean, comfortable and safe, ensuring all seat belts are in correct working order.
5. Provide support to clients and ensure that all rules are observed and safely maintained
6. Liaise with clients, parents, families and colleagues regarding the transports needs of clients and provide a highly reliable, professional and supportive service.
7. Where appropriate, escort passengers with a visual impairment and other disabilities to and from the vehicle, ensuring that they reach their destination safely- if necessary supporting them into buildings.
8. To pick up messages promptly and deal with issues that arise, changes in plans and priorities and offer solutions to difficulties
9. Provide person centred support to clients and their families, being flexible when the needs of the service require it.
10. Keep up-to-date with training, with policies and with the needs of clients
11. Perform such other duties consistent with the nature of the post as the from time to time decide

  • Hold a full, clean driving licence

  • Have a minimum of three years' driving experience

  • Have attended MIDAS (Minibus Drvier Awareness Scheme) training

  • Have previous experience of working with, or social interaction with people with disabilities

  • Have an understanding of safeguarding principles and how to apply them in this role

    Community Services is seeking to appoint a driver to transport clients in QAC car or mini-buses from home to various locations including the QAC Community Hubs, work places, leisure opportunities and a wide range of other locations throughout Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, with occasional trips outside of the area by arrangement., Queen Alexandra College (QAC) is a national residential College and registered charity that supports a diverse range of student/client abilities and needs.
