Full Job Description

Purpose of job: The Deputy Manager will support the Preschool Manager to oversee the overall day-to-day management of the preschool to the highest standard, ensuring that the best possible environment and care are provided for young children. The Deputy Manager will report to the Preschool Manager and the Chair of the Trustees

Working hours: .7.30 am - 3.30 am Monday - Friday

Remuneration: £25,000 Salary (52 weeks including 6 weeks holiday pay ) or pro rata term time only (38 weeks + 5.63 weeks holiday pay).

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • To achieve and maintain high standards of care and education.

  • To assist the Preschool Manager to manage the staff team including recruitment, retention, providing day-to-day guidance, training and support to all staff and students that are on placement at the setting.

  • To work as part of the management team through strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, and development of the Preschool.

  • To ensure that all policies, procedures, and curriculums are implemented and adhered to at all times.

  • To undertake peer observations and to give feedback at termly supervisions.

  • To assist in the day-to-day running and responsibilities of the setting, including managing the preschool sessions across the week.

  • To use your knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage to organise, record and implement an effective program of age-appropriate activities to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of the children in the session, whilst taking their interest into account.

  • To ensure that the principles of The EYFS are adhered to.

  • To involve all key people in the planning, development, and implementation of the program of activities.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all key people observe and plan for their key children by observing and getting to know the interests of their key child through play.

  • Ensure that records relating to children are suitably stored, having regard to confidentiality and ease of access for key workers.

  • Ensuring that safety checks are completed daily.

  • Deploy your staff effectively and ensure that the correct staff to child ratio is always maintained.

  • Work with the Manager to ensure that the correct numbers of staff are present each day, considering any staff holidays or other absence within the team.

  • To manage the breakfast club run by Preschool.

  • To manage the social media of the setting including the website, Facebook, and Instagram.

  • Take responsibility for Health and Safety issues in the setting, including carrying out audits and risk assessments and to report any issues or anything that could cause harm to a manager without delay.

  • Develop effective daily routines to ensure that the children's day runs smoothly and has variety. Give opportunities to play, both outdoors and in, healthy eating, games and stories, group, and solitary play.

  • To work with the Manager and Committee to ensure that all records are maintained, with special regard to the monitoring of daily registration, accident, incident, risk assessment and key person records.

  • To be responsible for the running of the Preschool in the Managers absence and to take initiative as required,

  • Attend all committee meetings as required and be prepared to take a lead role in staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Ensure that all members of staff clearly understand their role within the team.

  • Give direction to all your team regarding any new methods, policies, procedure changes or alteration to routines.

  • Keep your own knowledge and professional development up to date by reading new publications, using the internet, and attending training. Take every opportunity to share your knowledge with the key people as appropriate.

  • To be the nominated Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and to fulfil all duties and requirements pertaining to this role in accordance with the welfare and safeguarding requirements.

  • Use your knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures to ensure the safety of all children in the setting. Provide leadership and guidance to all members of staff and ensure that all concerns are taken seriously and reported to a manager without delay.

  • Work closely with the manager, other professionals, and parents to ensure that any children in your group with EAL, SEN or any other additional needs are assisted fully to ensure that the preschool meets their needs.

  • Make sure that your staff are aware of the key role of parents and treat them with respect. Encourage good relationships between staff and parents and develop strategies for sharing information about their child.

  • To create a welcoming family friendly environment and to develop strong links with parents and the local community. To ensure effective communication between the Preschool staff, parents, and committee.

  • To undertake any other Preschool duties and responsibilities as and when required by the preschool manager or committee.

  • To be responsible for the maintenance of the first aid boxes and the correct recording, labelling and storage of medication.

  • To carry out and assess the fire safety procedures ensuring that all children and staff know what to do in the event of a fire.

  • Maintain the archive system.

  • Monitor the accident file to assess environmental risks or patterns occurring.

    Greystones Preschool is currently looking for a Deputy Manager to work in the setting from February 2024. The applicant must be qualified to level three, have an advanced safeguarding qualification and be willing to fulfil the roles outlined in the settings Deputy Managers job description, as set out below:-
