Full Job Description

  • Be familiar with all bathing products and can prepare and use them correctly.


  • Bathe, shampoo, clip, trim, dry and style dogs to conform to a variety of breed specific standard styles. During this process it is expected that the dog groomer will also detangle hair, remove mats, dry the coat, and check for parasites or other skin irritations and deal with them appropriately.


  • Know and understand shop procedures and completes duties with minimal supervision.


  • Undertake additional duties include trimming nails, cleaning ears and brushing teeth.


  • Check the animal's skin, eyes, ears, mouth, nose, feet and nails for any problems and report back to the owner any concerns or issues.


  • Be expected to work with a variety of breeds and sizes


  • Be responsible for accommodating any special requests from the owner and informing them if any health problems are discovered during the grooming process.


  • Take proper safety precautions to minimize the risk of bites and scratches.


  • The position is physically demanding and requires the ability to be exposed to water, soaps, and blowing air for extended periods of time; must be able to stand for entire work day.


  • Use the personal protective equipment provided to help withstand prolonged exposure to dog and cat hair.


  • Have the ability to bend, lift, and reach.


  • Be expected to use a computer based system to schedule new appointments and register new clients.


  • Proficiently groom all dogs (with minimal supervision when learning a new style)


  • Assist in ensuring excellent salon presentation is maintained and high standards are kept through cleanliness, safety and good standards of housekeeping.


  • Assist the salon manager to effectively manage and plan the team rotas as well as effectively managing the salon diary to maximise the number of appointments.


  • Under the direction of the salon manager assist with the training and development of other salon colleagues, as required.


  • Communicate effectively and appropriately when dealing with customers and their pets on a daily basis.


  • Keep clean and sterilised at all times the washing and grooming areas and supplies, approaching areas and the shop as well as other general day to day duties.


  • Be responsible for any other tasks as required for the business.


  • Ensure all reasonable steps are taken to maintain security of the building.


  • In the absence of the salon manager will be expected to handle and securely store takings of the business.


  • Be expected to deal with any concerns or complaints from clients and refer them to the salon manager as appropriate.
