Full Job Description

It’s a varied role, so no two days will be the same. On any given day, you could be leading a meeting with key industry stakeholders; negotiating a new rail connection agreement; or heading to a freight terminal to visit a customer, dressed in full PPE. Always, you’ll demonstrate Network Rail’s core behaviours, and inspire others to deliver for our customers.

Join our dynamic team and be the key interface for all things freight on the Eastern Region. You’ll provide specialist freight knowledge and expertise, supporting our customers’ interests while protecting Network Rail’s commercial position.

We’ll look to you to champion freight within the Region and beyond, lead key stakeholder interfaces and introduce new commercial opportunities. As a core member of our team, you'll bring relevant experience with a proven ability to manage diverse customer interests.

About the team..

The Railfreight team serve nationally focused customers whose interests span our geographical route and regional boundaries. These include freight operating companies (FOCs), long distance passenger operators and charter service providers. Working with our industry partners, we keep supermarkets stocked, builders building and medicine moving.

Given that a single freight train can replace up to a mile of lorries on a stretch of motorway, we can make a huge contribution to the sustainability agenda. What we do matters, to our customers, communities, and the planet. We’re hugely ambitious and our mission is to accelerate the shift to rail. BPSS

As an arm’s length department of the UK Government, Network Rail is required to comply with a well-established pre-employment vetting process for all prospective employees. Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks require prospective employees of Network Rail to meet the following requirements.
