Full Job Description

Little Gate College is a further education post 16 provider for students with an EHCP that are aspiring to move into paid employment. Our brand new provision is set to open in September 2024, and we are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated HLTA to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, person-centred study programmes for our students in the Future Ready Programme and Supported Internship Programme.

Some of your responsibilities as a HLTA at Little Gate College will include:

  • Support with planning, preparation, and delivery of engaging learning activities meeting Ofsted standards of outstanding or good teaching, learning and assessments.

  • To support in managing resources in order to enhance the student experience.

  • Commit and contribute to improving standards and to maintaining a caring and stimulating environment for students.

  • Communicating with all stakeholders to ensure that students are receiving person centred support to achieve their long-term goals and maximise the potential of students on their successful journey into paid work.

  • Commit to developing a positive team culture of praise and feedback and participate in meetings and training events that support and develop the work of the college and team.

  • Maintain clear and accurate records to ensure quality compliance is adhered to with regard to all regulatory, contractual, internal policies and procedures including UK GDPR regulations.

  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of students and act on any safeguarding issues in accordance with Little Gate College procedures including British Values.

  • To provide reports, case studies and data as required for multi-agency, annual review and EHCP meetings and reviews to support students.

    Minimum of Level 2 Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent

  • A minimum of 1 years' experience.

  • Experience of supporting students with SEND

  • Experience of supporting and embedding functional skills in English & Maths

  • English and Mathematics level 4/C or above

  • Self-organisation and self-motivation.

  • Able to use personal initiative within a structured framework.

  • Good negotiation skills.

  • Use IT systems including Office 365 independently, efficiently, and effectively.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with other staff, trainees/customers, employers, and other professionals.

  • Ability to show empathy and understanding towards with other staff, trainees/customers, employers, and other professionals.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.

  • Evidence clear, concise and accurate record keeping for monitoring, quality, and audit in accordance with Little Gate policies, generating own documents and maintaining own filing system to ensure provision of data is accurate and timely.

  • Share our values.

  • Be a car driver with access to a car for work purposes or have the ability to travel to various work locations across Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Rother independently via public transport or other means.

  • Be subject to an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service

  • Be able to organise your time and work flexibly.

  • Be able to work to deadlines.

  • Willingness to undertake all relevant training.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Understanding/awareness of Equal Opportunities

  • Respect and adhere to Little Gate policies and procedures., Knowledge/ experience of Makaton, PECS other communication skills training

  • Knowledge/ experience/ qualification of CIAG

  • Knowledge/experience of risk assessments.

  • Training in Systematic Instruction.

  • Experience of working in Further Education.

  • Supported Employment training.

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety within the workplace

  • Willingness to attend off site events such as careers fairs, meetings & training.

  • Basic knowledge of welfare benefits

  • Understanding of a wide variety of work settings and job roles.

  • Appointed 1^st aider qualification or willingness to train for this.
