Full Job Description

The Injection Moulding Setter is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, mould tool strip downs, and insert changes of injection moulding tools and machinery. They ensure the efficient and accurate production of plastic parts and products, as well as the proper maintenance and management of mould tools. There is an expectation to work as part of a team and work together to achieve common goals., 1. Safety and Compliance:

- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials.

- Identify potential safety hazards within the injection moulding environment and report them to the appropriate personnel.

- Participate in safety training programs and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues

- Use proper lifting techniques to avoid strains or injuries when moving and packaging products

- Being conscious of ergonomics and body posture to prevent repetitive strain injuries and discomfort.

- Operating Injection Moulding machinery, ancillary equipment and tools safely, following manufacturer guidelines and receiving proper training.

- Keeping the packaging area clean and free from hazards that could lead to slips or falls.

- Knowing the location of fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and first aid supplies, and being prepared to respond to emergencies.

- Ensure all equipment pre-use safety checks are completed before use.

2. Mould Tool Strip Downs and Insert Changes:

- Coordinate mould tool strip downs by safely disassembling components for mould changes or insert additions.

- Remove and replace mould inserts to accommodate different product features or design variations.

- Ensure precise placement of mould inserts to maintain product quality and dimensional accuracy.

- Inspect mould components for wear, damage, or defects and report findings to the supervisor for necessary repairs.

- Clean and lubricate mould components to prevent issues during production and extend the tool's lifespan.

- Replace worn-out or damaged components as required.

3. Machine Setup:

- Prepare and set up injection moulding machines according to production requirements, using product specification sheets where available.

- Install and secure mould tools into the machine, ensuring correct alignment and clamping.

- Load into machines saved process parameters for specified products where available.

- Adjust machine parameters such as temperature, pressure, and cycle time based on material specifications and product requirements, using product specification sheets where available.

4. Material Handling / Preparation:

- Prepare, load and unload materials into hoppers, monitoring material levels and flow during production.

- Understand and use material hopper loaders and material dosing systems.

- Understand and use purging compounds following set procedures in order to aid in product / material change overs.

5. Process Monitoring and Quality Control:

- Monitor the injection moulding process to ensure that parts are produced according to established quality standards and specifications.

- Carry out product SPC first off and last off quality checks in line with product specifications.

- Make necessary adjustments to machine settings to address variations in part quality.

- Participate in quality control checks and inspections to identify and address defects or non-conformities.

6. Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

- Identify and troubleshoot issues related to machine operation, moulding defects, and material inconsistencies.

- Perform routine maintenance tasks on injection moulding machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and parts replacement.

- Collaborate with Technician and Supervisor to raise and escalate issues which are outside of your knowledge and skill set.

7. Documentation:

- Maintain comprehensive records of machine settings, adjustments, production data, mould tool changes, material changes and breakdowns.

- Keep Production and routing card documents up to date with accurate information ensuring all batch numbers are recorded for traceability purposes.

- Keep production schedule and insert spreadsheets up to date with accurate information.

- Ensure all completed jobs have materials and product correctly transferred on ERP systems (E.G EFACS / Microsoft Dynamics)

- Document issues, solutions, and process improvements for future reference.

8. Other:

- Support in packaging of finished goods product when required due to unforeseen circumstances.

- Adopt an open-minded approach to offering improvement suggestions within the Injection Moulding department.

REPORT TO - ENGINEERING SUPERVISOR

Minimum level 2 IMT

- Minimum 5 years experience

- Experience in tool changes

- Experience in injection mold tool insert / tooling part changes

- Desirable: Trained in overhead crane pendant minimum 3 Ton

- Computer literate,

  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
