Full Job Description

The role of the Leisure Assistant is to ensure the smooth operation of the Leisure Facilities; Student Gym, Swimming Pool, Muggles Activity Centre, Atrium, and the Staff Gym. This includes lifeguarding, gym inductions and supervision of areas. Within the department, you work as part of a team to ensure students are safe and engaged whilst providing an opportunity to utilise our amazing facilities. During school holidays, the leisure team coordinates commercial bookings and Camp QE (www.facebook.com/campqe).,

  • Work as part of an established Leisure Department with experienced staff to ensure smooth operation of activities and services on the estate.

  • Assist in the general running of leisure facilities and commercial bookings

  • Be a positive, energetic, and enthusiastic team member to ensure that students and visitors receive the best possible experience.

  • Supervision of facilities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures set out by the Leisure Operations Manager & Commercial Operations Manager

  • Supervision and monitoring of student behaviour

  • General maintenance and upkeep of facilities, ensure facilities and equipment are maintained to a high standard, reporting any faults to the relevant departments using the appropriate reporting channels, recording faults on the fault reporting site.

  • Carry out maintenance, cleaning, and health and safety checks on equipment within the leisure facilities.

  • Check facility prior to opening to ensure all litter or debris is disposed of and ensure facility is in good working order and safe for activity.

  • Ensure, always to be identifiable by wearing correct uniform with name badge.

  • Undertake any training as required by the school or management. This includes but is not limited to; Child Protection and Safeguarding, In-house training, lifeguard training, Fire Warden etc.

  • Work with other departments within the Estate to ensure the smooth operation of facilities, such as Boarding, Academic, and Pastoral.

  • Actively promote evening and weekend facilities available to best maximise usage.

  • Enforce school policies and contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.

  • Record and report all incidents, accidents and near misses.

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person(s)

  • Support the department with their duties as required, covering for illness/absence as required, whenever possible

  • Ensure all visitors are received courteously and professionally, following the school's visitor security procedure.

  • Lifting/movement of equipment as required for maintenance and cleaning.

  • Carry out day to day administrative roles i.e., emails.

  • Work evenings and weekends, flexible shift pattern required

  • Deliver fun and engaging activities.

  • Monitor access control to facilities, ensuring appropriate usage of facilities. Intervening and enforcing policies, procedures, and rules. Providing advice and training where applicable for correct and safe technique for students in accordance with qualifications. Promoting a health and fitness lifestyle.

  • Conduct gym inductions and update induction records for students

  • Carry out duties in accordance with qualifications gained


  • Lifeguards (RLSS NPLQ)
  • Attend CPD training every month to remain competent as a lifeguard

  • Ensure enough training is undertaken to renew and maintain qualification

  • Carry out lifeguard duties as set out in the PSOP

  • Experience of working in a similar role

  • Experience of working with children

  • Some knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations as they relate to the role

  • The ability to make practical suggestions to create, improve and solve problems

  • A highly responsible, approachable and friendly attitude.

  • The ability to create a positive learning environment.

  • The right to live and work in the UK.

  • Complete fluency in English.

  • Availability to attend training prior to your contract commencing.

  • Qualifications related to the job role, e.g. Gym Instructor, First aid, National Pool Lifeguard, National Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor, H&S, Safeguarding
