Full Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for managing a team of four Maintenance Craftsperson who are responsible for maintaining student accommodation in Endcliffe & Ranmoor. The two student villages comprise of 4500 bed accommodation where the Supervisor will be based. The Supervisor is to ensure that reactive maintenance is completed within contractual timescales, statutory requirements and safety standards. The Supervisor will be part of a Facilities Management team and will report directly to the Account Manager.,

  • Line manager for the Maintenance team (4 people) including management of sickness, absence and holidays and involvement in appraisals and performance management

  • Responsible for day to day operational management of the internal team and contractors for reactive works

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations relating to services delivered

  • Provide leadership and support to the on-site team in delivering the requirements of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) for the University of Sheffield Student Village

  • Support with contractual reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant policies and procedures, codes of practice, statutory requirements and ensure professional standards are maintained

  • Ensure CAFM Task Management System is up to date at all times and ensure all reactive are completed within project agreements

  • Contribute to the creation of a dynamic team to achieve delivery of the key objectives. This includes rigorously assessing performance, mentoring, developing, recruiting, replacing and otherwise strengthening the team

  • Carry out regular audits across all services to ensure services are being maintained to agreed standards and performance including Manager Safety Visits

  • Ensure all business specific SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) obligations are met and procedures adhered to

  • Liaise with the Administration team to coordinate and dispatch all reactive work orders form the Maximo CAFM system, ensuring all works completed within the relevant SLA rectification period

  • Understand and meet ongoing customer requirements, develop effective working relationships with business partners, suppliers and subcontractors

  • Occasional requirement to support evenings, weekends and events such as in-take and out-take

    Experience of a similar supervisory role

  • Experience of facilities management ideally in student accommodation

  • Excellent knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical and general repairs

  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and best practices in maintenance operations

  • Organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads to ensure deadlines are met

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and external stakeholders

  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite

  • SMSTS / SSSTS (desirable)

  • Relevant CSCS card (desirable)

  • IOSH Managing Safely (desirable)

  • Experience of CAFM systems i.e Maximo (desirable)


  • This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.

    Equans is looking for a Maintenance Supervisor to join our team working at the University of Sheffield on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week.
