Full Job Description

The post-holder will be responsible for the management and organisation of the scientific and technical services of Phlebotomy, Specimen Reception, Anti-Coagulation and Point of Care department within Pathology across the Trust. Key objectives include ensuring that: Ensure Phlebotomy, Specimen Reception, Anti-Coagulation and Point of Care department provides a high quality and timely service to all users High professional and technical standards, (e.g. Departmental Standard Operating Procedures, Trust and National Policies), are promoted and maintained at all times for all staff under their management, and in line with the UKAS guidelines and compliant with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 (BSQR) That all Biomedical Scientists, POCT staff, Specimen Reception and Phlebotomist grades under their management (within the department) fully understand, work to, and implement the agreed departmental procedures and policies set out by the Pathology Service Manager, Deputy Director of
Operations -Pathology and Clinical Head of Department. That staff fully understand, work to, and implement all other authorised policies and procedures (including health and safety procedures) The training and mentoring requirements of all the staff are identified through the appraisal system, and met, in order to achieve the overall aims of the individuals and the department. Service developments to improve effectiveness are identified, assessed and where appropriate implemented after consultation with the Clinical Head of Department and Deputy Director of Operations -Pathology New policies and procedures are developed, documented, and changes implemented to policies or working practices of the department, as agreed with the Deputy Director of Operations -Pathology and/or Clinical Head of Department as appropriate.
