Main duties of the job

The role of the successful candidate will be varied and fulfilling and includes :

Rotation around different areas of pharmacy including dispensary, medicines management, stores / procurement, QA and others to develop your knowledge and skills.

You will :

  • Be responsible for attending all elements of the level 3 pharmacy technician apprenticeship training to ensure successful completion of the two-year course.

  • Be responsible for the collection of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence.

  • Undertake any training necessary for the safe and efficient performance of duties.

  • Participate fully in all the learning and study experiences.

  • Adhere to the learning agreement at all times.

  • Have a professional attitude.

  • Have a strong attention to detail.

  • Have working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.

  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Have a flexible approach and commitment to accommodate the needs of the service.

  • Support the pharmacy department in the provision of complete pharmaceutical care to patients.

  • Deliver a high-quality service to a multitude of areas throughout the Trust when working within the different pharmacy departments.

  • Comply with the GPhC code of professional conduct, trust policies and procedures and with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

    We are looking for an individual who has a keen interest in training to become a registered Pharmacy Technician. Full training is provided over a 2-year fixed period, during which you will rotate through various areas of the Pharmacy Department, working alongside our friendly and experienced team.

    This is a level 3 apprenticeship which is delivered by The University of East Anglia. You must be committed to completing this training on a day release basis working through the curriculum of interactive online learning, face to face study days and work-based learning, you must also attend regular progress review meetings with an allocated educational supervisor.

    This is a demanding role that requires the post holder to fulfil all the requirements of working full time while undertaking the qualification, requiring some study to be completed in your own time.

    Individuals will need to be highly motivated and organised and be capable of meeting multiple deadlines punctually. We are therefore looking for individuals who can guarantee this type of commitment.

    This is a post suitable only for those dedicated to becoming a pharmacy technician and who can put in the necessary hard work consistently over the 2-year contract.

    You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well organised and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

    You must be committed to providing a high-quality level of service to patients to ensure a patient focused service.

    Students who successfully complete the 2-year course and associated study will be eligible to apply to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

    Full training will be provided, with key responsibilities gradually introduced as experience is gained.

    The course provider is The University of East Anglia and applicants must have the following entry requirements :

    A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade A
  • - C (new grades 9 - 4) or equivalent including :

  • GCSE English at Grade C / Level 4 or above, Scottish National 5 or above, or equivalent English language evidence which can include Functional Skills Level 2

  • GCSE Maths at Grade C / Level 4, Scottish National 5 or above, or equivalent evidence of numeracy which can include Functional Skills Level 2

  • GCSE Science x 1 at Grade C / Level 4 or above, or Scottish National 5 or equivalent

  • PLEASE NOTE that English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is not an equivalent to GCSE English Grade C / Level 4 or above and does not meet the entry requirements., A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade A - C (new grades 9 - 4) or equivalent including : GCSE English at Grade C / Level 4 or above, Scottish National 5, or above, or equivalent English language evidence which can include Functional Skills Level 2

  • GCSE Maths at Grade C / Level 4, Scottish National 5 or above, or equivalent evidence of numeracy which can include Functional Skills Level 2

  • GCSE Science x 1 at Grade C / Level 4 or above, or Scottish National 5 or equivalent.

  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy environment
