Full Job Description

The Process Supervisor will efficiently organise and supervise the operation of an anaerobic digestion plant, which will be a 24/7 operation (4 days on/off alternating 12 hour day and night 7:00 - 7:00), ensuring health & safety and environmental compliance, whilst showing continuous improvement in productivity, plant availability and the requirements of sub-products produced in accordance with the site licences.

Biffa operates 76 waste processing facilities across the UK. Biffa's Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facilities can process up to 315kT of food waste per year and operate 24/7, Large volumes of food waste that can be bulked onto an artic our site at Poplars in Cannock can accept this for re-processing. Food waste is then converted into electricity through Anaerobic Digestion, improving environmental credibility with your waste being used as a source of renewable energy.

  • Monitoring and controlling all resource within the AD plant in terms of people and equipment, including stock control, maintaining a high level of housekeeping in all areas, to maximise operational productivity, plant availability and plant performance.

  • Ensuring productivity and availability exceeds minimum defined standards in terms of biogas/electricity production and quality of the sub products generated during the process (inerts, digestate, and effluents), whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.

  • Controlling the material which flows into and out of the process to ensure downtimes are minimised.

  • Providing accurate and detailed records of all plant operations, settings and stoppages and to attribute causes to all unplanned downtime.

  • Supporting the engineering functioning in developing a programme of planned preventative maintenance, inspection and cleaning to minimise downtime and provide records of recurrent faulting.

  • Analysing and reviewing maintenance activities, cost-control, health & safety and service KPIs, implementing necessary corrective actions in the event of variance,

  • Must have good man management skills and be able to stay focussed in a tough and demanding environment.

    Experience as Process Supervisor or position of similar responsibility ideally in a green waste/water treatment process plant or similar

  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined KPI's

  • Good man management skills and be able to stay focussed in a tough and demanding environment.

  • Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational environment

  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical process environment.

  • Experience of people and health and safety management within a unionised and multi-shift environment.

  • Understanding of the waste industry and relevant laws.


  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI's

  • The ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision and, most importantly, play well with others.
