Full Job Description

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.

Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.

Proposed improvements as will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.

Part of TRU is the exciting introduction of new train control technology (ETCS) that needs a dedicated project engineering team to deliver several technical interventions across the TRU route. The role will need an enthusiastic and dynamic leader that has a strong project engineering background along with the ability to converse with stakeholders at all levels.,

  • Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:

    1. Develop and manage integration processes to deliver, monitor and review the technical integration to support the project schedule, budget, safety, environmental and quality requirements;

    2. Monitor System wide compliance with Network Rail Company standards, legislation (including CSM & RiR), and escalation of integrated non-compliances to resolution;

    3. Implement an engineering competence management process, applied to both internal and contractor’s engineering personnel, so that only suitably qualified and experienced staff are utilised;

    4. Leading on ERTMS system CSM and safety case approval for each EiS stage;

    5. Manage all activities to deliver an integrated system architecture able to achieve whole life reliability, maintainability, operability and cost effectiveness targets;

    6. Report on the progress and compliance status of all integration metrics;

    7. Develop and manage an assurance regime system that monitors compliance with safe and Efficient Authorisation;

    8. Undertake Designated Project Engineer duties, as allocated for ETCS projects.

    · Chartered Engineer

    · University degree in engineering

    · Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution

    · Relevant experience of major multifunctional projects in the rail industry including project procedures / standards, signalling CBI distributed system architectures and equipment

    It would be advantageous if you have:

    · Experience of risk assessment and risk management techniques

    · Experience of engineering assurance activities

    · Experience of System Integration, Safety Case Approval, Common Safety Method and Interoperability processes

    · Experience of implementing ETCS from a trackside infrastructure and / or onboard perspective

    Salary: £71,163 to £80,060 per annum.

    Car allowance: £6,000 per annum.
