Full Job Description

Responsible for undertaking a range of chemical and technical processes, the Forensic Enhancement Laboratory provides a region-wide service in forensic mark enhancement to further criminal investigations. The role is integral to the effective and efficient running of the laboratory - using chemical processes to develop finger marks as well as providing technical and clerical support to the team., Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last five years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.

The role would suit those with a basic science qualification, or with experience of working in a laboratory environment, along with the aptitude for completing an in-house Forensic Laboratory Technician training programme. Basic knowledge of computerised databases is essential as is the ability to prioritise workload. An awareness of the requirements of ISO 17025 would be advantageous.

Appointed applicants will be physically capable of carrying out chemical tasks; will be able to undertake visual quality control and will also be able to complete a safe lifting course. In addition, appointed applicants must be able to deal with the effects of crime and scenes of a sensitive nature.

Please note that due to the nature of the role, appointed candidates will be required to provide biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police elimination databases. This is for routine speculative searching purposes.
