Full Job Description

To provide a high standard of childcare, promoting physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Nursery and Pre-school Units.

What deadlines or pressures have to be met?
Daily Reports to Deputy Nursery Manager
Daily session start / finish times / meal times
Planned sessional activity to Ofsted requirements for Eligible Provider care
Regular attendance at Nursery meetings
Regular development training, 1 To prepare and operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children within your Unit (6 months to 2 years or 2 years to 5 years). Oversee the care and welfare of the children within your unit, for example, taking care of hygiene needs and providing comfort where required.

2 To supervise the Junior Nursery Nurse and Nursery Assistant within your Unit to ensure all activity programmes and childcare services are delivered to the standards required by both Ofsted and STEP and in keeping with STEP's Policies and Procedures.

3 Administration: To maintain accurate records in line with Ofsted requirements, for example, Accident Forms, Developmental Records and Attendance Records. To contribute towards the progression in achievement of the Sheffield Quality Kite mark in Childcare, supporting and enabling junior staff to make their contribution.

4 To be flexible within the working practices of the Nursery as a whole with constant attention to the needs and requirements of the children, both as a body and as individuals.

KEY AREAS FOR DECISION MAKING / JUDGEMENT / INITIATIVE: In which areas and to what level are decisions made before needing authorisation?
1 Application of best practice.
2 Alert the Deputy Nursery Manager/ Nursery Manager, or other in their absence, to issues giving immediate cause for concern.
3 Minor changes to daily routine, not requiring management intervention.
WORKING WITH COLLEAGUES: Does the role entail liaising, leading, coaching or managing? Please state how and with whom.
1 Liaise with and support all junior members of the Nursery Team - lead by example.
2 Liaise with and report to the Deputy Nursery Manager / Nursery Manager on all issues requiring consultation or feedback.
3 Liaise with all STEP staff as appropriate.
