Full Job Description

As a Senior Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our new Glassworks Warden team, who will provide a visible and reassuring presence in Barnsley town centre, tackling anti-social behaviour and supporting local businesses. You will also be involved in developing and implementing strategies and initiatives to improve community safety and cohesion in Barnsley town centre, working in partnership with other agencies and stakeholders. The role requires excellent leadership skills to drive continuous service improvement and sound working knowledge of legislation applicable to the role. It is important that all aspects of the role profile are met when applying for the positions. The team work outside of normal office hours which may require the successful candidate to be available for occasional weekend or evening work.
The Safer Neighbourhood Service is a diverse team focusing on a range of statutory and non-statutory functions including, but not limited to community safety, anti-social behaviour, environmental crime and blight and all tenure housing management and regulation.
The main aims of the role will be to:

  • Manage the day to day operation of a multi disciplinary uniformed team


  • Engage with key stakeholders to broaden and develop closer working relationships.


  • Provide support and guidance to front line officers to support ongoing development


  • Act as an ambassador for the Safer Neighbourhood Service and Barnsley Council maximising opportunities to engage with local community groups, businesses and stakeholders across your area., Please ensure you view the job profile for this role, as you will need to demonstrate in your application form how you meet the required criteria.
