Full Job Description

Channel 4 is a world class entertainment brand. The Social team within 4Studio is responsible for further building our world class social media presence. As part of this strategy we launched a new youth-skewing brand to our social portfolio in 2022 - Channel 4.0.

Starring some of the biggest and brightest names on the internet, Channel 4.0 combines thoughtful, authentic and innovative formats with playful chaos and boundless joy to reach young audiences serving up the content they love. It has already garnered millions of organic views and numerous industry awards and is still less than 2 years old.

We are looking for an industry-leading Social Media Manager to help us achieve our objective; this person will be responsible for publishing our content to different accounts within our portfolio, across different platforms, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and X. They will also be responsible for building and engaging loyal communities, and interacting with our audiences in line with legal and compliance guidelines and brand Tone of Voice.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for engaging and building a community of viewers, scripting social copy and driving the tone of voice for the brand (adhering to brand guidelines but also offering suggestions/recommendations where appropriate). In addition they will ensure all content is optimised fully to reach the right audiences, with the right metadata and keywords to ensure distribution is maximised. This will include using the Community tab and YouTube Shorts strategy to promote the main Channel, and there will also be some copywriting and publishing/community engagement on other platforms. They will also liaise with internal and external stakeholders to report on performance.

They will work closely with Strategists, Producer/Editors, Analysts and Commissioning to ensure we're publishing the right kind of content that will captivate and engage audiences across the different platforms. You'll know exactly how to talk to an audience, encouraging engagement and jumping on trends and zeitgeisty topics in order to ensure Channel 4 is at the cutting edge of all things social. You'll be able to analyse audience response and performance to help inform publishing strategies, ensuring our content reaches the widest possible audience., Content Publishing & Channel Management

  • Working with a designated team who live and breathe Channel 4.0 you will be responsible for copywriting and publishing all content across the YouTube account (Shorts, Community posts etc). This will include optimised metadata, copy and some interactions across our portfolio of accounts. You will also be required to look after the Instagram account and point towards the content landing on YT.

  • You will be very familiar with the YT CMS (as well as those of other platforms), and skilled with using spreadsheets/databases/publishing tools to help track and monitor scheduling activity

  • You'll be interested in social media trends and adept at using content discovery and social media monitoring tools to assess the landscape in real time and ensure our accounts are timely and engaging

  • You will understand how the different platform algorithms can impact performance, and know how to optimise content in the best possible way to extend reach and engagement

  • You will be familiar with the type of content available on 4.0, and the roster of talent we use… as well as be familiar with, and take an interest in, potential talent and similar accounts.

  • You will know how to talk to this audience and be able to engage them in an authentic, compelling way. You will have the skills needed to attract audience to the content, and encourage them to keep coming back for more.

  • You'll be ensuring content is suitable for the platforms we publish on, and will make it your business to know community guidelines and advertiser-friendly content guidelines inside out. You'll also need to work with our Legal and Compliance teams to understand what is and isn't suitable for our audiences.

  • You will be passionate about using the right thumbnail, the right copy, the right descriptions and metadata, and know when to step in to amend based on performance.

  • You'll know how to jump on reactive trends or audience insight to make content (picture, copy, clipped video) to drive audience engagement.

  • You'll be as much a fan of the channel as the audience itself, and so attuned to finding agile creative opportunities to super-serve the fandoms of the pages

You will be given a large degree of autonomy, but you need to be able to judge when something needs escalating

  • You will be able to work within a team and can bend and flex to support colleagues in order to achieve shared goals

  • You will need to be able to use data to feedback insights into key stakeholders, and then suggest and articulate re-prioritisation of content outputs accordingly

  • You will be required to manage the sometimes-competing demands of key stakeholders. Cool under pressure and excellent powers of persuasion are required.

  • You will need to be able to explain both problems and solutions in layman's terms. This will be important when "managing upwards"

  • You will need to have a good working relationship with Legal & Compliance. They are there to make sure we stay the right side of the line rather than to clip your wings.

  • Measurement & Reporting
  • You will be required to work with Analysts to produce regular updates that will be shared with senior management and the executive team

  • This requires the ability to use social media measurement tools and present the information in a clear, concise way

  • Whether something has gone well or badly, you will be required to learn lessons from what has been done and be able to apply those lessons, so we keep on improving, Demonstrate significant experience of engaging with communities and copywriting with a specific YouTube youth-skewing focus

  • Demonstrate significant experience of using scheduling tools, creating social publishing calendars and engaging with communities across multiple platforms

  • Demonstrate significant experience in optimisation of social content to reach bigger and/or focused audiences. You'll know why thumbnails, titles, metadata and tagging are as important as what's in the content itself.

  • Demonstrate experience using social measurement and reporting tools, and how you've learnt from them to inform future social community management.

  • You will know the platforms, and their functions, inside out. You'll also be well versed in all their Community Guidelines and know what will and won't inhibit organic distribution

  • Experience with similar social publishers and brands a huge plus.

All our offices are open five days a week.
