Therapist (12 month Maternity / Adoption Cover)

We are seeking an experienced child and adolescent therapist to joint the team for planned maternity cover. Initially there is a 12-month fixed term contract, but we do expect the service to grow during this period and future options are likely for the right candidate. We are less focussed on the specific qualification of the clinician, but would expect registration with the relevant professional body. We will provide access to external clinical supervision as part of the role. There is a strong structure of ongoing CPD inside and outside the organisation.

The role involves taking over the direct work with existing boys as well as being involved in the assessment of and taking on new children. The case work involves the planning and review of therapeutic work, sharing this across a multi-disciplinary team. There is a need to maintain and update client files, complete and contribute to reports and be engaged in regular structured reviews of placement, priorities and risk management. There is excellent management and leadership support of the service, strong Ofsted ratings for care and education, and we are a fully accredited 'therapeutic community (Royal College of Psychiatrists).

The role is very visible as part of the wider therapeutic community team. We have dedicated therapy space as part of our resource on a busy residential 'campus' that accommodates 13 boys and so there is lots of 'non-therapy' and very domestic interaction with the boys and staff. Staff interaction also involves attending the team meetings and both formal and informal consultation.

Effective safeguarding experience is essential, and the role is subject to safer recruitment principles and Enhanced DBS check.

Amberleigh Care is a specialist therapeutic residential care and education service. We work with a defined group of looked after children, boys, 11-18 and our care, education and therapy are systemically integrated in a very structured model of delivery. We use a group 'therapeutic community' approach to coordinate our living-learning, relational practice and the Good Lives Model as a key framework for intervention and planning.
